The Original Reiki Ideals

The secret art of inviting happiness,
the miraculous medicine of all diseases;

"Just for today, do not anger
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work and be kind to people
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer
pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth"

REIKI

Reiki is the ancient healing modality, based on the teachings of Dr. Mikau Usui, and is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Dr.Usui, a Japanese educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered this healing system in the late 1800’s. After many years of searching for and learning healing techniques all over the world, including visits to China, India, and the U.S., he traveled to Mt. Kurama for a 21-day meditation and fasting ritual.  It was during this fasting ritual that Dr. Usui was shown the symbols and knowledge currently used in Reiki.

The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced “Ray-Key”) translates into “Universal Life Energy” and is made up of two words:  “Rei” meaning “Universal Life” and ‘Ki” meaning “Energy”. “Ki” is also referred to as “Chi” by the Chinese, “Prana” in Sanskrit, or “Mana” in Hawaiian. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice, but complementary to any medical treatment and/or religious practice. It is a subtle and effective form of energy healing using universal guided life force energy. Reiki healing works by laying of hands on the body to balance your energy centers (chakras) and releasing any blockages. A Reiki practitioner serves as a vessel that provides healing energies where they are most needed.  This promotes your body’s natural ability to heal its self, increasing energy, reducing stress, and increasing overall vitality.

Karuna® Reiki naturally grew out of the Usui and Tibetan Reiki and is considered the next step up from traditional Reiki. In order to practice Karuna Reiki®, one has to be trained as a Master/Teacher in traditional Usui Reiki. Karuna Reiki® conducts healing energies that are noticeably stronger and with a wider scope of symbols. The word Karuna means "compassionate action" in Sanskrit and as with any Reiki healing session, the energy will flow where it is needed. The Karuna® Reiki practitioner allows the healing energy to flow through his or her body to accommodate the energy to flow and enter the receiving person.

 Animal Reiki During a Reiki session, animals often experience a deep state of peace as the Reiki clears imbalances, allowing for new and harmonious patterns of health and wellness to emerge. Physical contact is not a requirement for Reiki and traditionally the practitioner offers Reiki to the animal hands-off.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

After an initial welcome and explanation of services, you’ll be asked to lay down on a comfortable massage table. You will remain fully clothed, except for your shoes, during your healing session . It benefits any recipient of Reiki to be comfortable, so you might be asked to remove any jewelry and wear lose, comfortable clothes. Most Reiki sessions will be held in a comfortable relaxing atmosphere and will be accompanied by relaxing music, candles, and/or aromatherapy

During a Reiki session you will experience a feeling of deep relaxation and peacefulness.  You might experience warmth coming from the practitioner’s hands and/or see pictures and colors. Some recipients feel energy flowing through their bodies and a gentle "lifting". These all promote natural healing.

Once the healing session is over, you and your practitioner will discuss any relevant energy blockages, emotions, and or feelings experienced during your session. You will become conscious of any negative patterns holding you back from feeling your best. Once you aware of these patterns, you can take steps to prevent them from re-occurring.  A healing session, including the initial interview usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes.
